Montaluce Winery Family Photos | A Beautiful Extended Family Session in North Georgia
There’s something really special about photographing multiple generations together.
It’s not just about getting everyone smiling at the camera (although we’ll definitely do that). It’s about capturing grandparents with their grandchildren, cousins laughing together, siblings who don’t get to see each other often, and all of those little in-between moments that become even more meaningful as the years go by.
This extended family session at Montaluce Winery in Dahlonega was one of those evenings that reminded me why I love photographing families in North Georgia. The vineyards were glowing in the evening light, the mountains created the perfect backdrop, and everyone was simply excited to spend time together.

Planning an Extended Family Session at Montaluce
Whenever I’m photographing a larger family, my goal is to keep things moving and make the experience feel relaxed.
We’ll start with everyone together while the kids are still fresh, then work through the different family combinations before finishing with plenty of candid moments.
Some of my favorite images usually happen after everyone thinks we’re “done.”
The kids start exploring, grandparents start laughing with the grandkids, siblings joke with each other, and those genuine moments become the photographs everyone ends up framing.
If you’re planning your own session, I always recommend choosing outfits that complement the location rather than compete with it. Soft neutrals, earthy colors, muted greens, creams, light blues, and warm browns photograph beautifully against the vineyards and mountains.
The goal isn’t for everyone to match perfectly—it’s for the entire family to feel cohesive while still letting everyone’s personality shine.
My Favorite Moments From This Session
One of the reasons I love photographing extended families is because every gallery tells a different story.
Some families are full of nonstop laughter.
Others are quieter and more sentimental.
Some have toddlers running in every direction while grandparents happily soak it all in.
This session had a little bit of everything.
Watching everyone slow down, enjoy being together, and create new memories was just as rewarding as the photographs themselves. Those moments are why I encourage families to think of their session as an experience instead of simply another item on their to-do list.
Years from now, these images become more than beautiful portraits—they become reminders of a season of life that will never look exactly the same again.
